Lecture: Capturing the essence of sensory experience The child explores abstract concepts such as dimensions or weight with the help of the concrete sensorial materials, thus capturing the essence of all things in the world. These materials mobilize the child’s human tendencies for observation, manipulation and abstraction, which all are the ingredients of intelligence. Through a sequence of activities, the child prepares himself for the discovery and building of human culture.
